Currently, I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I do software development by trade. I write code for a living. The best part of my job is working with logic. I use languages such as Java, C#, C++, JavaScript, bash, and XSL. I also do a lot of work with databases, web services, and XML. Much of my work involves client/server and web based applications development. Some of the technologies and platforms I use include J2EE, COM, Unix, Linux, and Windows. I also do a lot of systems administration and configuration management. Additionally, I perform leadership roles on many software projects. I enjoy very much the problem solving and creativity in this line of work. Most of my projects involve geographic information systems (GIS), but I also like systems administration and mobile development.
I enjoy reading, travelling, exploring, skiing, and skating. I spend a lot of time doing things on the computer; I enjoy programming very much. I also am very interested in emergency preparedness and survival. In the past, I did a lot of drawing and sculpting. And, as this site manifests, I like to write a lot. Also, if you visit my blog, Meditations, you will see some of the things I think about and some more details of my free time. Additionally, I have a MySpace site and a Facebook site.
For those of you more interested in my technical background, I have a special blog about GIS, software, electronics, and similar technologies: Mike Quentel Software. For my professional profile, see: my LinkedIn profile
